Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ali Amin Gandapur is set to independently contest the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister election, sources within the PTI said.

According to them, Gandapur has not joined the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) as he has submitted papers for PTI provincial president in the upcoming intraparty election.

The CM-designate who was elected to the provincial assembly from Dera Ismail Khan, will remain independent as he will not be able to contest in PTI intraparty election once he joins SIC.

It is pertinent to mention that the PTI lawmakers from the National Assembly along with provincial assemblies of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and Punjab joined the SIC to secure reserved seats.

The PTI was ousted from the election as a party after the Supreme Court upheld the Election Commission of Pakistan’s decision to strip the party of its iconic ‘bat’ symbol.
