In a bid to deescalate pressure the PML-N government has been facing over the sacking of NADRA Chairman, Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan wrote an explanatory letter to parliamentarians and defended the move.

Chaudhry Nisar Ali, in his letter, said that it is inappropriate to attach the removal of NADRA chief Tariq Malik with the matter of thumb impression verification, a task NADAR was assigned to examine authenticity of polled votes following reports of rigging in May 11 general elections and subsequent by-elections. The minister also said that government is ready to convene a meeting of parliamentary parties to create a consensus on the issues relating to the National Database and Registration Authority.
