As suspended SSP Malir Rao Anwar failed to show up today, SSP Investigation Malir Abid Qaimkhani said the arrest orders for the police officer could be issued over non-cooperation in the investigation of an ‘extrajudicial killing’ case.
Talking to media persons here, Qaimkhani said the inquiry committee awaited Rao’s appearance before it for a grilling session but he didn’t turn up, besides no contact could be established with the suspended officer.
“The investigation body anticipates cooperation from all officers named in the case,” he said.
In reply to a question, the SSP investigation said the arrest orders could be issued against the officers if they continued flouting the orders.
On the occasion, he said a summon notification has been pasted outside Rao Anwar’s residence in Karachi, while dispelling media reports about raid at his house.
No hopes for justice: Rao
Earlier today, the embattled cop announced that he wouldn’t appear before any investigation body. “There is no use of appearing a ‘one-sided inquiry’,” he asserted.
Dubbing the investigation as a malicious campaign, Anwar passed pessimistic remarks over ongoing probe into the extrajudicial killing of 27-year-old youth from South Waziristan in Karachi.
“I don’t have hopes for justice,” he remarked.
He said IG AD Khawaja had recently announced Rs2 lacs as award for police officials involved in an encounter at Shahrah-e-Faisal in Karachi but later questions were raised on the police shootout.
“Does it mean IG Sindh was involved in the killings,” he asked.
Committee to submit report
In an interaction with media, DIG East Sultan Khowaja earlier said the committee will submit its report to the Sindh IG in three days.
“It’s an open inquiry! Eyewitnesses can come forward to document their statements” he said.
Khowaja said the family of the deceased has been taken into confidence with regard to the probe and the family members have been asked to appear before the committee to record their statements.
