  • Traders reject sales tax on mobile phones

Traders of the country rejected federal government’s decision to levy double taxes on mobile phones on Friday. The traders demanded that steps should be taken to improve the state of mobile industry.

Mobile phones have penetrated into the lives of citizens ranging from small shopkeepers to large business owners which has greatly benefited government in terms of tax revenue.

The budget for fiscal year 2015-2016 has imposed double sales tax on mobile phones which has greatly setback consumers and business owners alike.

Arguing against the elimination of regulatory duty, stakeholders of mobile industry have said that government should take steps to improve the state of the industry.

Traders have argued that instead of levying additional taxes on mobile industry, government should instead try to take steps to expand tax net.
