The law enforcement agencies have arrested the alleged culprit who was running a social media campaign against the chief justice of Pakistan (CJP).

Sources said that Rawalpindi-resident Abdul Wasay has been apprehended for orchestrating a threatening campaign against Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa. They revealed that Wasay engaged in a malicious campaign targeting the CJP on X (formerly Twitter), including direct threats as well as participating in character assassination on social media platforms.

Wasay's alarming actions prompted swift action from law enforcers, leading to his detention. Investigations are currently underway to identify other individuals involved in the campaign. The sources also indicate that law enforcement agencies are diligently working to ascertain the identities of all participants.

Authorities have emphasized that strict legal measures will be taken against all individuals involved in the threatening campaign once they have been identified. The severity of the situation underscores the importance of upholding the rule of law and safeguarding the dignity and safety of public officials.

The arrest of Abdul Wasay serves as a clear message that threatening or defamatory behaviour towards public figures will not be tolerated. It highlights the commitment of law enforcement agencies to uphold justice and ensure accountability for those who seek to undermine the integrity of the judiciary or any other governmental institution.

In a move against slanderous campaigns on social media targeting the election commission and government officials, the caretaker government had announced on Wednesday the formation of a new joint investigation team (JIT) for thorough investigations.

The decision comes amidst growing concerns over the spread of misinformation and attempts to manipulate public opinion through deceptive tactics. The caretaker government has vowed to uphold the integrity of the electoral process and ensure fair and transparent elections.

Speaking on the matter, a spokesperson for the caretaker government said: "We cannot allow malicious actors to undermine the democratic process through deceitful means."
