A three-member bench of the Supreme Court has granted permission for Balochistan National Party Chairman Sardar Akhtar Mengal to participate in the upcoming general elections.

The verdict announced by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez led bench came after the court dismissed an appeal challenging the approval of Mengal's nomination papers.

The appeal, filed by objector Yasir Ahmed, contested the acceptance of Sardar Akhtar Mengal's nomination papers. Initially, the Returning Officer had rejected the papers, a decision that was later overturned by the Election Tribunal. The High Court subsequently upheld the Election Tribunal's ruling.

In delivering the judgment, Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa stressed the court's reluctance to interfere in matters related to the factual aspects of election cases.

The decision allows Sardar Akhtar Mengal to stand as a candidate in the general elections scheduled for February 8.

This development follows a series of similar decisions by the Supreme Court, granting approval for various candidates to participate in the upcoming elections.

Notably, the court had previously allowed participation for individuals such as PTI President Pervaiz Elahi, Sanam Javed, Major (Rtd) Tahir Sadiq, Umar Aslam, Shaukat Basra, and others.

Sardar Akhtar Mengal's inclusion in the list of eligible candidates adds another layer of anticipation to the upcoming general elections. As political dynamics continue to evolve, the Supreme Court's decisions play a crucial role in shaping the landscape of the electoral process. The nation now awaits the unfolding of events as political.
