Freddy the tortoise is no ordinary tortoise. He was caught in a bush fire sometime back in Brazil, and this meant that he had the slightest chance of survival. In fact, many who would have come across Freddy would have perhaps chosen to put him out of his misery and spare him the trauma.
However, the Animal Avengers is a group that is dedicated to working towards the plight of animals like Freddy. This is a group that comprises pioneer surgeons. They not only changed Freddy’s life, but through their work, Freddy also made history.
Freddy is the owner of the first ever 3D printed shell, one of its kind. In fact, the group asserts that this was the first creature that they decided to help, and the first one to receive a fully restructured hull too.
The group of doctors are stationed in Sao Paolo, and are working together to help animals like Freddy get a lease back at life. The shell was made through the reconstruction of a 3D computer image, which was designed out of inspiration from pictures that were taken of Freddy.
These pictures were then sent to a dental surgeon, who used a 3D printer to make the design come alive. As luck would have it, they managed to come up with a design that would not only fit the tortoise, but would also make Freddy live life like any other tortoise out there.
A lot of people have been full of nothing but praise for the Animal Avengers, and so many have already been offering their support for this group through donations, so that they can be able to fund more similar projects, and help save the lives of other animals, just as much as they did for Freddy.
