Giles Clarke has received a similar reply to the one that was given to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The former England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) chairman, who is playing the role of a facilitator for the resumption of Indo-Pak cricketing ties, has been told by the Indian cricket authorities that it is waiting for government approval for the series against Pakistan in Sri Lanka.
Two tentative dates for the series, comprising three One-day International and two T20 matches, have been put forward by the PCB: Dec 15- Jan 4 and Dec 19-Jan 4.
Although the PCB hasn’t officially announced Clarke’s reply to its chief Shaharyar Khan, a spokesman on the condition of anonymity said on Tuesday that the former had spoken to BCCI president Shashnak Manohar who had told him that the Indian government had not yet given the NOC for the series.
The PCB chief had on Monday announced that he will wait for a few days for a final decision on the series after he’d received a call from Clarke in which he reassured that he will speak to the BCCI.
The two boards signed a MoU last year in which they agreed Pakistan will host India four times while India will host their arch-rivals twice in the next eight years.
The PCB has bowed down to several BCCI demands in order to get on with the series, including the exclusion of Tests and agreeing to play in Sri Lanka after the BCCI refused to play in the United Arab Emirates.
The PCB isn’t officially announcing the cancellation of the series officially since its think-tank believes it have an adverse effect on their next scheduled series with India in 2017.
