As part of the ruling party’s initiative to build support in Sindh, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced on Monday a number of development plans, including a health scheme and a university for Hyderabad.

“It is the government’s responsibility to look after the underprivileged people of the province and therefore, we are announcing this health schemes as provided in Thatta,” the premier said while addressing a workers convention in the Sindh city.

According to sources, the PM has been advised by party leaders to live up to his earlier pledges of turning the focus to Sindh in order to change the perception that PML-N’s politics was Punjab-centric.

“The foundation stone of a university will soon be laid in Hyderabad and for this purpose, Rs1 billion are being allocated,” he added. “An international level airport will also be built in the city.”

PM Nawaz said Hyderabad will also have a metro bus service similar to the ones operated in Islamabad and Lahore. “We will ensure hospitals are established here and provide the utility of gas to the dwellers.”

The premier also announced to grant Rs500 million to the mayor of Hyderabad for development projects. A motorway will also make its way to the city, he added.

The premier claimed terrorism had been eliminated from Hyderabad and peace has returned to the city. “Today, Hyderabad as well as Karachi are witnessing peace and terrorism has been eradicated.”

He reiterated that power load-shedding, which has been ‘reduced’ to a significant level, will be completely eliminated in 2018.

Earlier, senior PML-N leader Shah Mohammad Shah told The Express Tribune that the premier will be presented a five-tola gold crown by Qasimabad Business Forum.
