  • Population Census: Karachi Commissioner takes notice of pencils being used for census forms

The Karachi Commissioner on Thursday took cognisance of unauthorised use of pencils by enumerators to fill out census forms during ongoing the sixth housing and population survey.

All deputy commissioners were notified by the additional city commissioner to ensure no enumerator in any district used a pencil to fill in the census form.

“It is keenly observed that some of the enumerators are making entries in Form-1 with a pencil, although a pencil is not allowed and is not a part of the census kit provided to the enumerators by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, Sindh, Karachi,” the circular read.

“The city commissioner, chairman divisional census coordination and vigilance committee desires that the instructions be issued to all enumerators through CDOs (census district officers) immediately and ensure that use of pencil is not repeated. Delinquents may be dealt with under the law, severely.”

Copies of the circular were also sent to the federal government’s census commission chief, provincial census commissioner in Sindh, headquarters of V-Corps in Karachi and to other concerned senior government officials.
