Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar on Friday took suo moto notice of a rape case in Karachi.

An eight-year-old girl was found in a stream in Korangi on Thursday. After medical examination, it was confirmed that the child was raped.

Parliamentarians expressed their concern over the case during a session in the Sindh Assembly on Thursday, where they stressed that the rapist should be punished. One parliamentarian remarked that after hearing such cases they get scared of letting their daughters step out of the house.

Later today, the parents of the minor girl found about the incident and reached the Civil Hospital Karachi’s Trauma Centre. The hospital also prepared the medico-legal report of the incident.

Police sources revealed that progress has been made in the minor child rape case investigation. The culprit behind the heinous act is suspected to be a neighbour to the family, police sources informed.

The culprit tried to kill the girl as she knew him, police said, adding that some neighbours are under scrutiny over suspicion.

Inspector General Sindh Police AD Khawaja also today contacted the minor girl’s mother.

He said that the girl’s family shifted to Karachi eight years ago from Larkana, adding that the family started to live in Korangi only a few days ago.

Meanwhile, the minor child’s maternal uncle also reached the Ibrahim Haideri police station and transferred the case to his name, police said. The case was earlier registered under the government last night when the girl was recovered.

The FIR includes sections of rape and attempts to murder.

Later, in a late-night development, at least five men were apprehended by the police authorities on suspicion of involvement in the case from Korangi and Baldia town.

According to details available to Geo News, the victim's body bore severe torture marks around the neck and hands. Additional Police Surgeon Dr Iqrar confirmed that the girl was subjected to sexual assault.

An initial statement recorded with the police states that the girl is either eight or nine years old. She is student at private school, a resident of Korangi and originally hails from Sindh's district Mithi.

The victim is admitted at the Civil Hospital trauma centre and hospital sources confirmed that she is in critical condition. A detailed statement will be recorded when her condition improves, police said.

Earlier this month, the CJP took suo notice over 10-year-old tortured child maid Tayyaba who was recovered from an additional sessions judge's residence in Islamabad.
