  • CTD arrests ‘financier’ of Safoora Goth carnage

    The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Friday claimed to have arrested a financier of Safoora bus attack that killed at over 40 people in May has been arrested.

    Speaking at press conference CTD in-charge Raja Umar Khatab said Adil Masood Buutt was the CEO of college he has built in collaboration with his friends 1994.

    He said the al-Qaeda affiliated suspect was arrested during a raid in Clifton area of the city on December 2 on charges of terror financing.

    At least eight gunmen shot dead over 40 passengers belonging to Ismaili Community who were travailing in a bus near Safoora Goth.

    The investigators had earlier arrested Saad Aziz, a former student of Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Pakistan’s premier educational institute, in connection with the carnage, and his is trial is now expected to be conducted by a military court.

    The military courts were set up as part of country’s plan to expedite the trials of hard core terrorists after an amendment to the Constitution.
