Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued show-cause notices to Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) member of the National Assembly leader Farooq Sattar and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader senator Sherry Rehman for violating election code of conduct.
According to report, the show-cause notice was issued to Sattar for holding an election rally on November 26, while Sherry was served with the notice for leading her party’s rally on November 29.
The ECP has directed both the political figures to submit their replies in seven days.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister of Sindh (CM) Qaim Ali Shah made telephonic contact with leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Waseem Akhtar and congratulated him for winning the local bodies elections in Karachi.
According to CM House spokesman, the CM called on Waseem Akhtar and felicitated him and his party for being victorious in the elections.
He said that the Sindh government respects and applauds MQM’s mandate and wants to see prosperity in the metropolis along with them.
Earlier, unofficial and inconclusive results were received for Sindh and MQM has been unofficially declared as the winners of Karachi. Some influential candidates of the opponent parties such as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Ali Zaidi, Jamat-e-Islami’s (JI) Hafiz Naeem ur-Rehman and Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Najmi Alam failed to cause an upset in the elections.
MQM’s possible candidates for Karachi’s Mayorship Waseem Akhtar and Rehan Hashmi won the polls. Akhtar won from UC-11, Aqab Jacob line while another party candidate Saadullah won from Bhatonagar, Municipal Corporation Korangi.
At the occasion, Dr. Murtaza Mughal said that imposition of additional taxes to show improved collection is not acceptable.
The system continues to support rich on the cost of poor widening the income gap which is fanning extremism and lawlessness, he said.
