Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf vice chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Sunday lashed out at the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) government for what he described misguided priorities to spend the lion’s share of the budget on constructing roads while ignoring basic facilities.
Speaking to reporters at the site of the oil tanker blaze incident which killed at least 125 people, he said that many causalities could have been averted if the administration responded in timely manner and cordoned off the site.
“If the army had not come to the victims’ rescue and airlift injured to CMH Multan, there were possibilities of more causalities,” he said.
Qureshi said south Punjab continues to remain the deprived and neglected part of the province.
“South Punjab does not figure on the government’s priority list. It is being treated in a step motherly manner. The government even abandoned the projects initiated by the previous PPP government which indicates its short-sightedness.”
He said that no one from the PML-N government had bothered to inquire from the injured or visit the site. “Had this incident taken place in Lahore, all civil and provincial administration would have got into gear,” he asserted
The PTI leader said the government focused all its resources on Orange Line train project and metro buses while ignoring education, health, potable water and other basis services.
He offered his condolences to the bereaved families and said the PTI stands together with them in this time of need. He called for most the best available health and medical facilities.
