Former National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq on Monday challenged in the Supreme Court the election tribunal’s decision regarding re-polling in NA-122 constituency of Lahore.

Barrister Asjad on behalf of Ayaz Sadiq submitted the appeal in the apex court’s Lahore registry.

The petition states that the NA-122 verdict is totally opposite to the facts and Ayaz Sadiq cannot be blamed for the election irregularities.

The PML-N leader also requested the court to issue stay order against imposition of 2.5 million rupees fine by the tribunal, stating that the fine was imposed illegally by the tribunal judge.

Last month, Justice Kazim Malik had de-seated Sadiq from NA-122 after massive irregularities were confirmed in the constituency. The tribunal directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold a re-election in NA-122.

The appeal against Ayaz Sadiq’s victory was filed by Imran Khan.
