As the plight of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) continues to be ignored, MNA Marvi Memon stages sit-ins for the release of the arrested IDPs outside the Bannu Jail.
Memon stressed that she will continue staging sit-ins for the arrested IDPs until they are released. “The IDPs were assaulted when they approached the police for provision of tents,” the MNA added. She also claimed that the federal government is taking measures to facilitate the IDPs.
Earlier on November 13, eight policemen and 11 internally IDPs were injured in a clash at a ration centre near Bannu Sports Complex, right before the arrival of international donors of United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) in the district. The IDPs started pelting the policemen with stones, leading to a brawl, while the security forces resorted to aerial firing and tear gas shelling to disperse the IDPs.
