In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Kashmir Valley’s pro-India politicians have treated Indian Independence Day with scorn.
As mostly stayed away from the celebrations, and some even mocked the absence of festivity in the territory.
The Valley-based pro-India politicians did this as a sign of the anger at last year’s abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status.
As per the English daily, Mohammad Akbar Lone, National Conference Lok Sabha member from Baramulla, said he had stayed away from the celebrations because he no longer accepted August 15 as his Independence Day.
The Telegraph says it checked the Twitter handles of nearly two dozen senior politicians of valley, including Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, and Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ghulam Ahmad Mir, but none had a word of salutation on the occasion.
The Kolkata-based newspaper said Indian Government has installed LCD screen at Srinagar city center for live telecast of Indian Prime Minister's speech but there was hardly any one to watch it.
