Complete shutdown will be observed across the territory in occupied Kashmir on Thursday to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of July 13, 1931 martyrs.

The Thursday’s strike will be the last programme of the weeklong protest calendar, call for which has been given by the joint resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik. Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and the world over will observe the day to reiterate the pledge that they will continue the mission of their martyrs till the achievement of the inalienable right to self-determination. The day will be marked by a march towards Naqashband Sahib in Srinagar where martyrs of 1931 are buried.

On 13th July 1931, the troops of Dogra Maharaja had killed 22 Kashmiris, one after the other, outside Central Jail in Srinagar during the court proceedings against one Abdul Qadeer who had asked Kashmiri people to defy the Dogra rule.

Meanwhile, the joint resistance leadership wrote a petition to the member states of the United Nations, international organizations and human rights defenders and bodies and urged them to play their role in finding out a just settlement of the Kashmir dispute. They said that non-resolution of the dispute had become the main reason of enormous suffering of the people of Kashmir and the flagrant violation of the basic human rights committed by the Indian state apparatus. The petition said that Kashmir was being ruled by military power and their legitimate rights and the aspirations were being trampled under the jack-boots of Indian occupational forces.

Kashmiri representative, Syed Faiz Naqshbandi, read out messages from Syed Ali Gilani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to the participants of the meeting of OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir that was held on the sidelines of 44th session of OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Abidjan, the main city of Republic of Cote d’Ivoire. The letter of Syed Ali Gilani underscored that Kashmir was not merely a territorial dispute but a human issue concerning the future of millions of Muslims undergoing immense hardships due to Indian barbarism.

On the other hand, the informed sources in Srinagar have said that the attack on Amarnath Yatris’ bus, last night, was orchestrated by Indian forces to malign the Kashmiris’ freedom struggle and to divert the world attention from human rights violations perpetrated by Indian troops in the occupied territory. At least seven yatris were killed in the mysterious attack. These sources have referred to the past events like Chhatisingpora massacre of Sikhs, Wandhama and Nadimarg massacres of Hindus while maintaining that all these incidents were the handiwork of Indian intelligence agencies to create communal tension amongst the Kashmiris. The Hurriyat leadership has demanded in strong terms the investigation of the yesterday’s attack on Hindu yatris.
