At least five Pakistani civilians were martyred and three others injured in unprovoked firing by Indian army at the Line of Control (LoC) on Saturday.

According to ISPR, Indian forces fired small arms and heavy weapons along the LoC in Chirikot and Satwal sectors.

Five individuals including a girl were killed and three citizens were injured in the incident, the ISPR said, adding that Pakistan Army troops effectively responded to the Indian firing.

Kashmir has been divided between India and Pakistan since the end of British colonial rule in 1947. Both claim it in full and have fought two wars over the mountainous region.

Despite November 2003 ceasefire agreement, there have been repeated outbreaks of firing across the LoC, with both sides reporting deaths and injuries including of civilians.
