Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan on Monday demanded resignation from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) of Supreme Court has summoned him on June 15, Thursday.

He also congratulated the nation that for the first time a serving PM was summoned by a JIT. He said PM Nawaz should resign while investigation was ongoing because the organizations represented in the JIT were subordinate to him.

“It is critical that PM Sharif resign while investigation is ongoing because the organizations represented in the JIT are subordinate to the PM,” he said in a series of tweets.

The PTI chief also reminded Nawaz that he himself had demanded from the then prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani to resign after the latter was convicted of contempt of court.

Senior Pakistan Peoples Party leader Qamar Zaman Kaira said that the JIT’s summoning the PM was a positive sign.“The prime minister has a central role in the Panama case,” he said.

He said the JIT was going to ask some most important questions from Nawaz.

The PPP leader hoped that the Pakistan Muslim League-N will not repeat what it did with the SC in the past.

“We expect that the PML-N will not use any extreme tactics during the hearing. The last time when Nawaz Sharif presented himself before the SC it was attacked,” said Kaira.

Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed said Maryam Nawaz and Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif may also get a call from JIT in few days.

He said the Panama Papers case was going to be culminated soon. He said next 10 days were of paramount importance in this regard.
