    Chief Election Commissioner retired Justice Sardar Raza Khan says 3.8 billion rupees have been incurred on the conduct of local government elections in the country.

    Briefing newsmen in Islamabad on Saturday evening, he said elaborate arrangements were made for training of election staff and to ensure holding of free, fair and transparent elections.

    Sardar Raza Khan said in all six hundred and ninety thousand election personnel were thoroughly trained and it is because of this that the local government elections were held in a comparatively better manner as compared to general elections.

    He said over four hundred and fifty thousand police personnel were deployed to ensure maintenance of law and order during local elections. In addition, 171 companies of Pakistan Army and fifteen thousand personnel of Rangers also assisted the law enforcing agencies.

    The Chief Election Commissioner said over eighty million voters were eligible to exercise their right to franchise in these elections.

    He thanked all segments of the society for their cooperation that helped complete all the phases of local government elections.
