Security forces arrested former Lal Masjid cleric Ghazi Abdul Rasheed’s two sons along with their security guard from Islamabad’s F-6 area on Wednesday.

According to initial reports, Haroon Rasheed and Haris Rasheed were travelling in their car with their personal gunman when Rangers and police intercepted their vehicle and took them into custody.

Security forces claim to have recovered arms and military uniforms from the possession of the accused. The two suspects have been taken to Kohsar Police Station for further investigation and an FIR has been registered against them.

Haroon Rasheed is fighting a case against former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf over the latter’s ‘involvement in the death of the former’s father and grandmother’. In 2013, the Islamabad police had registered a case against the former military dictator after Haroon submitted an application at the Aabpara Police Station for the registration of an FIR against Musharraf alleging him to be responsible for carrying out the Lal Masjid operation.

On Tuesday, a counsel for Musharraf requested the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to quash the FIR registered against his client in the Ghazi murder case, saying the Lal Masjid operation was conducted at the request of civil administration.
