  • Black day against The 21st Amendment Bar Pakistan

    Black Day Black Day

Lawyers, on the appeal of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) are observing country-wide black day today (Thursday) against the establishment of military courts and 21st Amendment Bill.

Lawyers would wear black bands to record their protest while appearing before courts whereas on the other hand, lawyers have raised black flag over the PBC rooms in various cities.

Pakistani lawmakers legislated 21st Amendment in the constitution, effectively giving the mandate to the military courts to try high profile military courts after the country saw one of the worst terrorist attacks in Peshawar in December 2014 that left 150 including 132 schoolchildren dead.

As per details, PBC would also lead rallies in different cities including Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi. Meanwhile, condemning resolutions against 21st amendment would also be taken under consideration. Earlier, PBC on Tuesday decided to challenge the 21st Amendment in the constitution and formation of the military courts.

In a statement issued by the council, it was stated that the 21st Amendment limits the role of judiciary and that the establishment of military courts is against the concept of independent judiciary.
