  • Premier’s resignation out of question: Ishaq Dar

Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s resignation was out of question. He said that Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) had demanded the registration of Model Town incident which has already been registered.

He said, “PAT’s FIR is exactly what their lawyers had given to police. If there will be some issues, they can be rectified”.

Talking to media after holding talks with PAT’s negotiation team today (Friday), Ishaq Dar said that PAT demanded a new judicial commission to be formed for interrogation of Model Town incident.

“All the reform agenda made by PAT will be looked at and we shall see if it needed constitutional amendment or if it could be executed through Executive Order”, said Ishaq Dar. He told that both the parties still insisted on PM’s resignation which was unconstitutional. He said that these two demands were unreasonable and could not be entertained.

"We have said the same about Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif that he will only resign if he is proven guilty by courts", said Dar. He said that it was unfair to ask someone to resign from his post without being proved as guilty.

Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal told that all the substantive demands of PTI and PAT have already been accepted by the government. “Insisting on resignations meant that PTI and PAT did not want the talks to move any further”, said Ahsan Iqbal.

Responding to questions regarding DG ISPR’s tweet, Ishaq Dar said that clarification regarding ISPR’s tweet had already been given by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.

“Prime Minister had explained the issue in complete detail in the National Assembly”, said Ishaq Dar. He said that Imran Khan and Tahirul Qadri were using the words of ‘mediator’, ‘guarantor’ and ‘arbitrator’ while Army was just asked to play the role of a ‘facilitator’. He said that DG ISPR’s statement was exactly in accordance with statements given by Prime Minister and Interior Minister in the National Assembly.
