Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed the commitment to ensure promotion of sports through various measures.
In a tweet today, he said the measures will include the encouragement and support of talented and high-performing athletes, as well as providing them with training opportunities for international competitions.
Shehbaz Sharif said he launched the Prime Minister's Youth initiative yesterday to provide opportunties to the youth to spend their energies in a positive manner.
The Prime Minister said majority of Pakistan's population consists of youth but unfortunately there is a severe lack of facilities not only for local but also for international sports. In view of this, we have laid the foundation stone of the country's first sports university and established a sports endowment fund.
Recognizing that these steps are not adequate, the Prime Minister said it is a good beginning and hoped that future governments will ensure continuation of these initiatives.
Shehbaz Sharif said history is a witness that our talented youth whenever provided with an opportunity, raised the national flag with their great performances.
