PESHAWAR: An anti-terrorism court on Tuesday convicted a member of a Bara-based proscribed organisation in a case of possession of suicide vests, hand grenades and other objectionable items and sentenced him to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment.
The judge Abdur Rauf Khan ruled that the prosecution had proved its case against the accused, Fazal Malik, resident of Tirah Valley in Khyber Agency, who was arrested red-handed from a residence at Hassan Garhi area on July 16, 2013.
The judge acquitted the two other accused identified as Humayun and Iqrar Gul due to lack of proper evidence.
The judge also issued arrest warrants of two absconding accused in the case, namely Qari Iqbal and his wife, Sadia.
The local police had raided a residence at FG Colony in Hassan Garhi area and arrested Fazal Malik and recovered 50 hand grenades, 40 electric detonators, 50 non-electric detonators, 23 receivers, 20-meter prime card wire, four suicide jackets, a battery, two jacket covers, about 120 grams explosives and some other related items.
Later on, the police also arrested Humayun and Iqrar Gul charging them with helping Fazal Malik.
The police had raided the residence on a tip-off that a leader of a proscribed organisation, Qari Iqbal, was present there. However, he could not be nabbed in the raid.
