PESHAWAR: Jamaat-e-Islami’s Professor Ibrahim Khan has warned the government that it would be responsible if former president Pervez Musharraf was allowed to leave Pakistan.

He (Musharraf) never abided by the constitution. He brought others’ war into Pakistan. The government will be held responsible if Musharraf was sent from the country safely. The law is for every common and special person, so it should be implemented indiscriminately,” said Prof. Ibrahim while addressing a gathering of JI workers in Peshawar’s Markaz-e-Islami.

Ibrahim, who is also a member of Taliban-proposed negotiating committee, said the peace talks were underway ‘despite some hurdles.’

“Negotiation with militants was being demanded by all political forces, and not the Jamaat-e-Islami only,” he said, expressing hope that peace could be restored through the dialogue.

Musharraf was indicted this month on charges relating to his imposition of emergency rule in late 2007. The ex-general, who seized power in 1999 and resigned in 2008, has pleaded "not guilty" to the treason charges.

The Sindh High Court is hearing Musharraf’s plea seeking removal for his name from Exit Control List (ECL) enabling him to visit his ailing mother in Dubai.
