    Two Chinese nationals, a man and a woman, were kidnapped from the Jinnah Town area of Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, on Wednesday afternoon, sources reported.

    According to police, unknown abductors had forced the two foreigners into a vehicle at gunpoint and driven away.

    One other woman, also a Chinese national, reportedly escaped the abduction.

    A passerby was injured after one of the abductors opened fire at the scene, sources reported.

    Police and Frontier Corps personnel reached the scene of the abduction to initiate an investigation.

    Acting Deputy Inspector General Police, Aitzaz Goraya said, "We collected evidence from the spot and efforts are underway to recover the Chinese nationals unhurt."

    They were headed to Jinnah Town, which is an affluent residential area in the city where many non-governmental organisations' (NGO) offices are based, to teach Mandarin.

    Chinese interest in Balochistan has spiked in recent years after the announcement of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which plans to connect Pakistani ports to Mainland China.
