The Electronic Entertainment Expo, commonly known as E3, is considered the world's largest business trade fair for video games. Fans keep their eyes peeled for revelations during the exclusive industry event.
E3, which takes place from June 16-18 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, welcomes over 50,000 business insiders, while fans follow the latest trends revealed by developers, publishers and designers through live webcasts. All the video game majors will showcase their goods there: Bethesda, Ubisoft, Electronic Arts and Nintendo.
Bethesda already revealed its upcoming hits on Monday night. Eagerly anticipated by fans, the post-apocalyptic role-playing game "Fallout 4" will be released in the autumn of 2015. The publisher also showed off footage of the remake of the 3D classic first-person shooter "Doom," where gamers will get to fight demons with chainsaws as well as with shotguns.
Gaming highlights
Microsoft will offer a first look at its new multi-platform and X-Box gaming lineup. High on the list is "Call of Duty Black Ops 3." Electronic Arts promises a new version of its car racing game "Need for Speed" and "Star Wars Battlefront," an adaptation of the cult blockbuster. The French developer Ubisoft will advertize the next sequel to its hit series "Assassin's Creed Syndicate."
All games and other innovations will be presented in press conferences streamed live on the internet. Fans have come to expect detailed trailers and game demonstrations from the E3. First-person shooter games, as well as adventure and role-playing games are popular trends at this year's trade fair.
Battle of the internet giants
Another major battle is on the E3's press agenda, and it's not a virtual one. Seeking to compete with Amazon's gaming channel "Twitch," Google is launching its rival platform "YouTube Gaming" in the summer of 2015. It will provide gamers trailers and live streams from game conventions and e-sports events. Amazon snatched Twitch and its lucrative business away from Google in August 2014.
E3 focuses on the industry, whereas the largest trade fair for games, Gamescom, is a gathering for passionate gamers from around the world. It will take place in August in Cologne.
