At a recent concert in Dubai, veteran Indian singer Asha Bhosle paid tribute to the late nightingale Noor Jehan when she made a slight diversion from her own discography to sing Mera Long Gawacha—a song that is famously immortalized in the voice of the legendary Pakistani songstress.

With the Sanu Nehar Wale Pul Te Bulake singer’s 90th birthday, September 21, right around the corner, Asha took the opportunity to pay homage to the incredible talent who was once also her contemporary in the world of singing and entertainment. The In Ankhon Ki Masti singer serenaded the large audience gathered at a concert hall in the cosmopolitan city that boats a reputation for frequently hosting concerts and entertainment shows like this one.

As Bhosle sang her rendition of the internationally recognized track by the declared Malika-e-Tarannum (Queen of Melody), a large picture flashed on the screen of the digital backdrop that showed Noor Jehan wearing her beautiful smile with the sister duo Lata Mangeshkar and Bhosle also smiling and nestled against her on each side.

The monochrome photograph was a sweet reminder of the respect and love shared between the three contemporaries. Although Bhosle and Mangeshkar were bound by blood, the two were bonded with Jehan over their collective reverence for the art of music composition, lyric writing, and singing. The three legendary artists not only shared their passion for music, but also the love of their mutual audiences within and outside of their home countries.
