  • Guy beaten up by angry mob for queue jumping at limited edition Air Jordan sale in Changsha

While queue jumping may be common practice in China, there are some places where you really shouldn’t try it, such as at the launch event for new limited edition Air Jordans.

Back on Sunday, more than 500 people had gathered in front of a Nike shop at the Changsha International Finance Square in the Hunan capital, hoping to get their hands on a pair of limited edition Air Jordan 1 Rookie of the Year trainers at a discount price.

However, just as the shop was about to open, one man pushed his way through the line and stood by the door. Some of those in the queue had been waiting in the rain for hours since early in the morning and angrily asked him just what he thought he was doing.

“I’m queue jumping. What are you going to do about it? the man is said to have replied.

Soon, some in the crowd answered this question by attacking the line hopping man. Video from the scene shows at least five guys in hoods pummelling him into a corner with kicks and punches.

It’s not actually clear what happened after that — if the man went defeated to the back of the line and if he actually managed to claim a pair of the prized sneakers in the end.

At the event, a limited number of the shoes were on sale for 1,299 yuan. An attractive price because after being bought, they could then be sold online for five to 10 times that amount. The shop has four more such sales scheduled for this month, in case you’re interested.
