  • Haneyya: World's conscience foiled US draft resolution

Head of Hamas's Political Bureau Ismail Haneyya on Friday said that the world's conscience has thwarted the US draft resolution condemning Hamas and the Palestinian resistance at the United Nations.

Haneyya in a press statement praised the countries that voted against the resolution showing support for the Palestinian people's rights, especially their right to resist the occupation.

Haneyya affirmed that the US proposal's failure is an important achievement for the Palestinian people and all countries which comply with international values and norms.

He praised the efforts made by the Palestinian Authority and the Palestinian permanent ambassador to the United Nations Riyad Mansour to foil the US-initiated draft resolution.

He also thanked the Arab and Muslim countries who have been working hard lately to obstruct the US-Israeli move.

The US-drafted resolution condemning Hamas on Thursday fell short of the two-thirds requirement to approve the proposal with 87 states voting in favor, 57 voting against, and 33 abstaining.

The US had originally called for a simple majority vote, but the United Nations General Assembly voted in favor of a two-thirds majority instead.
