British PM reveals Trump told her to sue European Union British PM reveals Trump told her to sue European Union

British Prime Minister Theresa says that US President Donald Trump advised her to sue the European Union and avoid negotiations with the bloc over Brexit.

Trump said last week that May had ignored a piece of advice he had given to the British premier.

On Sunday, May revealed that advice, telling BBC television that "he told me I should sue the EU."

"Sue the EU. Not go into negotiations - sue them," May said of Trump.

The two leaders held a joint press conference at Chequers, Ellesborough, on Friday, where Trump indicated that if May was unable to secure the deal that she needs from Britain, she might still follow his advice.

Commenting on Trump’s suggestion on how to handle the EU, May told BBC: "Interestingly, what the president also said at that press conference was 'don't walk away'.”

"Don't walk away from those negotiations because then you'll be stuck. So I want us to be able to sit down to negotiate the best deal for Britain."

Trump broke diplomatic protocol by apparently criticizing May’s approach to Brexit, saying that he had told her to do things differently.

On Thursday, Trump blasted May in an interview published shortly after May rolled out the red carpet at Blenheim Palace for the US president’s first official visit to the UK.

Trump disparaged May’s compromise, pro-business plan to leave the European Union and warned that her approach could imperil any future trade deal between the US and UK, saying the prime minister’s Brexit plan  was going “the opposite way.”

However, on Friday, Trump said that he supported the post-Brexit US trade deal with Britain, and that it was “fake news” to suggest otherwise.

“Whatever you’re going to do is OK with us,” Trump told May during a joint press conference at the conclusion of his visit to the UK.
