An Egyptian boy won the ‘smartest child in the world’ award at a global competition which took place in Malaysia on Tuesday, according to alarabiya.

Abdulrahman Hussain, 13, managed to bag the prize in a competition with participants from over 70 countries taking part in. The winner solved 230 complex arithmetic problems in an eight-minute period.

He won first place among 3,000 children from all over the world.

Hussain said that his success was down to his teachers and family members who encouraged him to take part.

The boy’s teacher Batul Mohammed Montasser said he began training on the Malaysian mental skills development programme back in 2012, and was involved in several competitions previously as part of the training.

She says that Hussain was trained to strengthen his memory and observation through the power of his mind and brainstorming to solve complex math problems in record times.
