Pakistan finished third as the Under-19 Cricket World Cup third place play-off between Pakistan and Afghanistan in Queenstown was called off due to persistent rain.

Pakistan finished as the third-placed team in the 2018 ICC U-19 CWC, owing to their higher-ranked finish in the Group stages. They finished atop Group D, while Afghanistan were behind them on net run-rate in the same group.

Pakistan were defeated by arch-rival India in the semifinal in a one-sided encounter. Pakistan lost the match by 203 runs as the Green Shirts were all out at 69 while chasing India’s 272.

Afghanistan were beaten by Australia in the first semifinal. The Kangaroos had chased down Afghanistan’s 181 runs with six wickets to spare.

It is worth mentioning here that Afghanistan had defeated Pakistan by five wickets earlier in the group stage.

Pakistan are the third-most successful team in ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup history behind only India and Australia, having taken home the title twice, in 2004 and 2006.

They have made the final on a further three occasions, including at the first-ever tournament in 1988, with a team including future legends Inzamam-ul-Haq and Mushtaq Ahmed. But for some poor fielding in their semi-final defeat to India, they could have been looking at another appearance in the final.
