  • Shahid Afridi Calls for Return of International Cricket to Karachi

    Stressing for return of international cricket to Karachi the former star all-rounder of Pakistan cricket team Shahid Afridi said that Karachi is the nursery of cricket in Karachi.

    Afridi expressed these thoughts at a ceremony held at a private hotel here. I take pride that I represented Karachi, this is my city and like other cities it too is teeming with cricket talents, he said.

    Calling presence of Pakistani players in teams owned by Indians Afridi said that international cricket must return to Karachi be it in the name of PSL or international matches. He also expressed at the news that the final of PSL-3 would be held in Karachi which he said would further strengthen cricket in Karachi.

    He also expressed hope that after the Rs 1.5 billion repairs and renovations works would give National Stadium Karachi a boost.

    Replying to a question Afridi said that he had approached the related government institutions for construction of a training academy for training the youth of Karachi but no attention was paid to the suggestion.

    Calling new players confident Afridi said that much is expected of such talented players as Babar Azam and Ammad Waseem. The suburban Sindh also houses a large number of talented young men, he added.

    Disclosing that he was under immense pressure over the PSL Afridi said that after him joining the teams Karachi Kings has completed. He also informed that the coaches and players of Karachi Kings would also impart training to younsters and he himself will also extend them an all out support.

    Saying that he would not mind playing under the leadership of a junior player Afridi said that the captain capable of absorbing pressure succeed.
