In a first case of its kind, a court in Sindh capital city has directed to register a murder case against a woman who had crushed a cat to death earlier this month.

On Feb 1, the woman ran over the feline in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority Phase 8 while she was driving through South Zone in Darakhshan Police Station limits.

A local lawyer, Faique Ali Jagirani approached the police to lodge an FIR against the woman driver but to no avail.

The petitioner then moved the court against the police apathy and the animal brutality.

As animal rights are protected all over the world, Jagirani demanded that the police and judiciary should take measures to protect the city’s cats.

Following the court orders, the police reached the ‘crime spot’ and collected the evidences, including the dead cat.
