A man identified as local leader of Sindhi nationalist party Irshad Ranjhani was allegedly shot dead by a Union Council chairman in Bhains Colony neighbourhood.

The victim remained lying on the road with bullet wounds for at least one hour before breathing his last.

Raheem Shah, the local UC chairman, claimed that he opened fire on Irshad Ranjhani, who was later identified as president of Jeay Sindh Tehreeks (JST) Karachi chapter, while foiling a robbery attempt.

However, according to family sources, Ranjhani had gone missing three days ago and yesterday (Thursday) his body was handed over to them.

The brother of the slain nationalist leader said that Ranjhani had left for Hyderabad three days ago and since then he was out of contact with the family.

He alleged that the UC chairman was used by someone else to kill his brother, saying Ranjhani was not a criminal but a political activist.

Ranjhanis aunt died of shock when his body was brought at home.

According to eye witnesses, Ranjhani sustained bullet wounds and remained on the road for at least an hour in injured condition before shifting him to police station instead of hospital.

Police came at the scene very late and surprisingly took the injured to police station first and later referred to hospital but Ranjhani breathed his last before reaching the medical facility, they added.

Ranjhani’s family has demanded of Sindh Chief Minster Syed Murad Ali Shah and IGP to arrest the killers.

Meanwhile, police said the case has been registered against four unknown persons under Section 393/34 of PPC.
