While breaking its silence, the Sindh government has finally come on the forefront to oppose the ongoing campaign for the construction of KalaBagh Dam on the Indus River saying that this issue is a ‘dead horse’.

It is mentioned here that the federal government had started a mere campaign to construct controversial Kalabagh Dam and separate funds have been created to collect the donations from inside and outside Pakistan for the dam.

After Prime Minister Imran Khan and Sindh Governor Imran Ismail launched fundraising for the construction of Dam, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and entire Sindh government had initially remained silent on this critical issue.

While talking, Advisor to Chief Minister on Information and Archives, Anti-Corruption and Law Barrister Murtaza Wahab said Sindh Assembly may submit and approve another resolution against the construction of Kalabagh Dam.

“The campaign to construct Kalabagh Dam is only aimed at getting cheap publicity because Kalabagh Dam is a dead issue as well as a dead horse. The Sindh Assembly had already passed the resolution against the construction of Kalabagh Dam and other provinces including Khyber Pakhtoonkhawah and Balochistan have already rejected the construction of Kalabagh Dam”, Murtaza Wahab added.

The advisor opined that the Kalabagh Dam is a controversial issue and people of Pakistan do not want to construct the dam.

“Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is a national party and it believes on federation and having a democratic approach. PPP never compromised on people interests although prioritized public opinion and interest. The Kalabagh Dam is a controversial issue from the very first day”, Murtaza Wahab went on to say.

He further said, “Assembly is a constitutional institution and this type of resolution is not in the interest of the masses of Sindh and Pakistan. It is necessary that opposition solve the problems of people and take interest in legislation which is fruitful to resolve the problems so that the people of across the Sindh and Pakistan achieve positive and good results.

“The Sindh government is striving hard to improve the living style of people of the province and ensure best education and healthcare facilities to them”, he concluded.
