  • Sehwan blast suspect arrested in Karachi: CTD

    Counter Terrorism Department DIG Aamir Farooqi said on Friday that in a coordinated raid with Sindh Rangers, a suspect was arrested, in connection with the deadly Sehwan suicide blast.

    Farooqi said that Nadir Jakhrani alias Murshid was arrested in Manghopir area of the metropolis. He informed that the planning of Sehwan attack took place at Dera Murad Jamali a city located in Nasirabad District in Balochistan.

    He added that all the people of the group have been identified by the police officials and they are either killed or are on run.

    The police officer said that Daesh’s Sindh Ameer has been killed.

    He said that there are clear cut indication of foreign hand behind terror incidents in the country, including the Sehwan blast.

    Faooqi said that the suicide bomber in the attack came from Afghanistan.

    Before the formal press conference, Sindh Cheif Minister Murad Ali Shah was informed about the suspect's arrest by Inspector General A D Khawaja and Additional IG CTD. The chief minister lauded the performance of police officials in arresting the suspect.
    On February 17, at least 88 people were martyred when a suicide bomber attacked the crowded Sufi shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Sehwan, injuring up to 343 others.

    The powerful blast took place inside the premises of the shrine as a dhamaal was taking place.

    Terrorist organisation Daesh claimed responsibility for the attack. The suspect is said to be affiliated with a number of other proscribed organizations before joining Daesh.
