    Sindh Cabinet on Saturday approved removal of incumbent Inspector General of Police A. D. Khawaja and appointment of Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti as new top cop of the province.

    The meeting gave approval to remove AD Khawaja as IGP and surrender him to centre. The cabinet also approved appointment of Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti, a BPS-22 officer of Police Service of Pakistan, as new IGP Sindh.Secretary Services briefed the cabinet. He told the cabinet that Khawaja was appointed as IGP Sindh on Own Pay Scale (OPS) in March 2016.

    The secretary said that Supreme Court had abolished all OPS posts. He said that the cabinet should surrender the services of Khawaja to federal government and recommend Dasti for appointment as new IG of police.

    It is to be mentioned here that the Sindh government had earlier also attempted to remove Khawaja, but failed due to high court decision.The provincial government had sent Khawaja packing on Apr 1, 2017 and appointed Dastiin his place.

    However, SHC suspended the appointment. Later, the cabinet had also approved the removal and appointment of Additional IG Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti as the provincial police chief by surrendering Khawaja ‘s services to the centre.

    But after months of litigation the high court threw out the notification and allowed Khawaja to continue working as IGP.
