Five candidates of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) from south Punjab have returned their party tickets and announced independent candidacy for the upcoming polls.

Interestingly, all five will be contesting the election with ‘jeep’ as their electoral symbol, which is also the electoral symbol allocated to former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar. Former deputy speaker Punjab assembly Sher Ali Gorchani also returned PML-N’s ticket for NA-193 and PP-293.
Gorchani’s father, Pervez Gorchani, has also returned the ticket for PP-294, Hafizur Rehman Dreshak withdrew from NA-194, Yousuf Dreshak also announced to contest elections as an independent candidate after returning the party’s ticket from PP-296.

Sources revealed that Sher Ali and others returned party tickets on the last day in order to limit PML-N’s candidature from constituencies.

PML-N will contest the upcoming general elections from around 213 National Assembly seats out of a total of 272 constituencies, said a well-placed source in the party.

The party continues to delay the announcement of the remaining tickets for national and provincial assemblies. PML-N’s central office on Friday continued to assure the media of announcing its complete candidate’s list. However, the announcement was not made and the party said it would announce the remaining tickets on Saturday (today).
It is pertinent to mention that June 29 is the last day for the candidates to submit their nomination papers to contest the general elections or to withdraw their papers.
