Citizens set ablaze a man, namely Arshad, on Saturday, for allegedly stealing a cellphone in Lahore’s Nawab Town area.

The man’s face was severely burnt, however, he is said to be out of danger now. Police reached the incident site immediately and arrested a suspect, Jahangir, allegedly involved in the burning of the man.

Police are further investigating the matter, an official said.

Earlier in May this year, a woman suffered burn injuries when her in-laws set her ablaze for not bearing a child in Punjab’s Okara. The victim was shifted to District Headquarter Hospital for treatment, police said.

A police official told that Asia Bibi tied-the-knot with Afzal three years ago in Village 36/4L. “However, the woman was unable to bear a child which led to routine arguments and fights between Asia and her in-laws,” he added.
