Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif Monday took notice of the blockade of Jaglot Skardu Road (JSR).
PM directed concerned authorities to immediately reopen the closed highway at Tormak due to landslides.
He directed Frontier Works Organization (FWO) to take emergency measures, using extra machinery and manpower to get the job done as soon as possible.
PM ordered FWO DG to make necessary arrangements for supply of essential commodities to domestic and foreign tourists stranded due to the blockade. The highway was closed for six days during the last two weeks due to heavy rains and landslides.
Jaglot Skardu Road is the only land route between mainland Pakistan and Baltistan region of Gilgit Baltistan. Large number of tourist arrivals has increased consumption of essential commodities in Baltistan, causing shortage of food items in the markets.
Locals and tourists had demanded the Prime Minister to take notice of the closure of the key highway.
