The Heritage Foundation of Pakistan has been adjudged World Habitat Awards Winner for the year 2018 clinching the prestigious trophy at the recently held UN Habitat World Convention, said an announcement Monday.
Smokeless stove programme responsible for creating female entrepreneurs out of village women and improving their quality of health and life was catalyst to help achieve the honor.
The trophy for World Habitat Award 2018 will be brought to Pakistan by David Ireland, Executive Director, World Habitat, and presented to Yasmeen Lari, Executive Director, Heritage Foundation of Pakistan during the international conference on Green Sustainable Architecture at Zero Carbon Cultural Centre (ZC3) in the vicinity of Makli World Heritage.
The event scheduled for November is being organized by Pakistan chapter of International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture and Urbanism (INTBAU) in collaboration with INTBAU – Global and World Habitat.
To celebrate the prestigious award, a couple of thousand Pakistan Chulah makers, representing several hundred villages will be present along with eminent international and national delegates from around the world and across the country.
The World Habitat Awards Advisory Group was quoted to have appreciated smokeless stove as a tremendous project, which is changing the kitchen from a dirty place to a clean place.
The zero carbon self-built Pakistan Chulah (stove) has been constructed by over 50,000 rural housewives in Upper and Lower Sindh.
The stove is smokeless and fuel efficient, requiring only sawdust/cow dung briquettes for fuel, thus requiring no bio-mass or wood for cooking.
