Minister for Power Omar Ayub Monday took a jibe at Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) members in the National Assembly telling them that their late party founder Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto used to call Field Marshal Ayub Khan "daddy".

The remark by the federal minister came in response to PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's speech in the House.

"We have come here with the votes of the people," Omar said. "The people of the constituency honoured us. I have been elected with highest number of votes."

The minister further said who did not know as to who formed the organisation Al-Zulfiqar. He said they would not allow the ones being disrespectful of their prime minister to speak in the assembly.

At this, opposition members surrounded the minister and tore copies of the agenda, with treasury members forming a buffer around Omar Ayub.

The situation led to the adjournment of the session until 11am on Tuesday.

It is pertinent to mention here that Omar Ayub is the grandson of Pakistan's first military ruler Field Marshall Ayub Khan.

Ayub Khan, the second president of Pakistan, assumed the presidency from then-president Iskander Mirza through the first successful coup d'état of the country in 1958.

Having entered politics as one of president Iskander Mirza's cabinet members, Bhutto was later assigned several ministries during Ayub Khan's military rule from 1958.

He, however, fell out with Ayub and was sacked from government. Bhutto later founded the PPP in November 1967.
