    Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi on Tuesday said that his ministry is developing a special system to halt smuggling and corruption.

    Talking to Pakistani journalists in Washington, the minister said 5500 million tons of chemical is being released in the river in Karachi on daily basis.

    The release of chemical in such huge quantity is creating hazards for the sea life, he continued.

    He relayed that Houston and Karachi Port will be given status of sister cities and in this regard an accord will be signed soon.

    Zaidi regretted that the ministry was neglected in the past but now changes are being made into it.

    In an interview with American Television ABC on Friday, the minister had said that economic development in Pakistan was in the best interest of the United States.

    He had said it was not just to foster growth in both the countries but also to curb extremism.

    Ali Zaidi had said it was a unique moment in time to capitalise on as Prime Minister Imran Khan was gaining trust globally as a credible leader.

    He had said Pakistan was a country where 65 percent of the population was below the age of 30. “It is a land of opportunity.”
