Rana Amjad, the General Manager of Sahiwal-Multan Rental Power Project, became approver against former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Monday in the Rs 22 billion Rental Power Projects (RPPs) case.

The court has accepted National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) request to include Amjad in witnesses list after evicting his name from the suspects.

The co-suspect Amjad has denied all charges against him filed in the reference.

On the other hand, the accountability watchdog has also decided to file interim reference against Ashraf.

Accountability court’s judge Muhammad Bashir has directed NAB to file the reference until next hearing scheduled on December 21.

Ashraf, a Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) politician who served as premier between June 22, 2012 and March 25, 2013, is accused of receiving kickbacks and commissions from nine rental power project firms for awarding contracts for setting up their projects in 2008 to overcome electricity crisis in the country.
