Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar has once again reaffirmed commitment for the construction of dams in the country.

Addressing a fund-raising event for dams at a hotel in London on Thursday night, Justice Nisar said, “No one can create obstacles or halt the construction of dams in Pakistan.”

The chief justice said, “We were told that provinces were not in agreement regarding the construction of Kalabagh Dam and thought it was not appropriate to create discord among brothers. However, all provinces are in agreement over the construction of Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand Dams.”

“Why shouldn’t Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand Dams be constructed?” he further questioned. “Several dams will be constructed on the Indus River and nobody can create obstacles in this pursuit. The water crisis will further worsen if immediate efforts are not taken to address it,” the top judge asserted.

Speaking about the issues facing Balochistan, Justice Nisar narrated that he asked the former provincial chief minister as to why the work that needed to be done was not completed. “Balochistan is facing severe issues pertaining to health, water and education. The water level in the province stands at 2,000 feet and if immediate actions are not taken then people might be forced to relocate,” he said.

“I have seen severe injustices in my country and seen people steal the rights of widows and orphans. We face human rights issues which are extremely painful,” the chief justice continued.

“I have no political motives, my only priority is to serve humanity,” Justice Nisar stated.

The chief justice is currently on a visit to the United Kingdom to raise funds for the construction of the Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand Dams. He is expected to return to the country on November 28.
