Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Wednesday strongly condemned the suicide attack on Awami National Party’s (ANP) corner meeting.

According to a tweet by Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor, Army Chief shared grief of Bilour family and ANP on condemnable targeting of Haroon Bilour & victims of heinous terrorist attack.

“We are fighting against nexus of inimical forces which aren’t willing to absorb a peaceful & stable Pakistan. We remain undeterred & shall IA defeat them,” maintained the COAS.

The incident was also denounced by caretaker Prime Minister Justice (Retd) Nasir-ul-Mulk and other political figures.

The blast in Peshawar’s Yaka Toot area martyred at least 20 people including Haroon Bilour and injured 30 others.

A suicide bomber detonated his explosives soon after Haroon Bilour arrived in the area to address a corner meeting of his party. He was ANP candidate for the upcoming general elections from provincial assembly constituency PK-78.

The funeral prayers of Bilour will be offered at 5:00pm today in Peshawar after which he will be laid to rest at the Wazir Bagh Graveyard.

He has left behind a widow and two sons to mourn his death.

Barrister Haroon Bilour was son on Bashir Ahmed Bilour, who was also martyred in suicide attack in Qissa Khawani Bazaar in December 2012, and nephew of another ANP stalwart Ghulam Ahmed Bilour.
